Property Problems: Fix Up Your Place With These Tips

webmasterSeptember 4, 2013

Fixing up your home doesn’t have to be hard — or expensive. There are plenty of quick and easy fixes you can make that will make a big difference in your home’s look without taking a big bite out of your pocketbook.
  • Fixing Cracks and Painting

Nothing makes your home look old and run down like cracked and dinged walls and worn-out peeling paint. With a little putty, you can fill in nail holes, fix dings, and repair cracks. Once that work is done, a new coat of paint will make your room look brand new. Depending on the size of the room, you can likely do all this work for less than $100.
  • Replacing Fixtures

An easy way to fix up your place and make it look more updated is to replace some of the fixtures. New handles and drawer pulls on kitchen cabinets is a quick, easy, and inexpensive way to spruce things up. Replacing light fixtures can bring new light into a room and make the space seem more inviting. If you want to go a little more in depth, you can replace plumbing fixtures, although this will likely cost more and may require the help of a professional.
  • Change the Wall and Window Treatments

Changing your curtains can update your look and also let more light into your home. Better yet, replacing curtains with blinds can let in more light and give your home a more modern look. Same goes for what hangs on your walls. Updating prints, mirrors, and other wall hangings can give your home a newer, more appealing look. None of these changes has to be expensive. You can usually find a set of mini blinds for as little as $25, and most discount stores have inexpensive prints you can hang anywhere.
  • Look Down for Inspiration

Replacing the flooring in your home can go a long way toward making things look new. Replacing old, outdated carpet will instantly make your home look and feel newer. Upgrading from linoleum to tile or wood will give your home a more upscale look and feel, although such a change can be expensive.
  • Outdoor Improvements

It’s not just the inside of your home that could use some work. A worn lawn with missing patches of grass, a crumbling retaining wall, or plant gardens with more weeds than plants are all a detriment to your home’s overall appearance. A professional from Landscape Maple Grove MN says there are many DIY projects you can start yourself.
Making an improvement to your home can be simple when you know where to start and how to spread out the costs. Use these tips the next time you want to spruce up your home.
