Save Money on Your Home: Repairs to Save You in the Long Run

webmasterOctober 1, 2013

As a homeowner, you may have a list of things to do around your house, like finally getting around to fixing that leaky faucet. Did you know that by keeping up on repairs, that you are actually saving money in the long run? Here are some tips to remember when looking at your to-do list.

  • Check Your Appliances

Some homeowners don’t think about checking appliances, but it’s a good thing to remember. Usually, people realize something is going wrong after it’s too late. By having your appliances like dishwashers and washing machines checked, you can avoid a cracked hose and water damage. Dryers, gas fireplaces, and refrigerators should be checked too. It’s also a good idea to make sure the appliances you are running are energy efficient, which can save a lot of money for you in the long run.

  • Clean/Replace Gutters

Make sure your gutters are cleaned out to avoid clogging and water damage. You don’t want water getting trapped near your roof, or exterior walls. This is an easy maintenance plan, but can save you a lot of headache. Check your gutters at least twice a year and replace them if necessary.

  • Leaky Faucets

That annoying drip from the kitchen faucet may seem harmless, but really, that’s a lot of money dripping from your sink. Get a reliable company to fix or replace that faucet, and have you saving money in no time. No more wasted water down the drain!

  • Pay Attention to your Hot Water Heater

A lot of times, your hot water heater does not get the attention it deserves. It is a necessity for your home, and can be a costly and even dangerous item if it isn’t monitored correctly. Pay attention to signs that your water heater may need repairing or replacing. If you notice that your water isn’t getting as hot as it used to, or your water comes out brown when you first turn it on, these may be indicators of a failing, or rusty hot water heater. According to a Bedell Plumbing Inc. professional, if you smell gas coming from your hot water tank, immediately call someone to get it fixed as this is extremely dangerous, and can lead to an explosion.

By taking care of your home, and repairing or replacing things that aren’t working correctly, you will not only be taking care of your wallet, but your comfort and safety. Don’t take chances with your home or the safety of your family, and keep every appliance and fixture in your home up to date.
