Fashion On A Budget: 6 Trendy Stores You Can Afford In College

FrugalfulFebruary 2, 2014October 18, 2022

There is no doubt about it; the transition from high school to college is difficult. Not only are you required to balance your social life with that little thing called schoolwork, you are also expected to flawlessly handle your newly discovered independence. To top it all off, college is expensive! But don’t sacrifice your personal style for textbooks. Here are six surprisingly chic stores that fit your college budget.

Forever 21

This store has beautiful clothing at reasonable prices. Forever 21 covers a range of styles from colorful dresses to studded jackets. While some of their clothing costs a little more than your wallet may allow, Forever 21 has tons of similar clothing on clearance and hosts regular sales.

Charlotte Russe

Charlotte Russe sells similar things to Forever 21 but lean towards the cuter side. They have a bunch of knock-offs that are just as nice as the name brand, too. Along with clothing, Charlotte Russe is great for finding unique accessories to top off any outfit.

Target

I know what you’re thinking: Target? Definitely yes. This store is super affordable and chock full of quality clothing. They sell mostly casual wear but occasionally have gorgeous dresses. I have bought too many blouses to count from Target without paying those ridiculous retail costs. The clothing is so nice that most people are surprised to hear it was from Target.

Marshalls

Marshalls’ catchphrase is “never pay full price for fabulous”, which is one I may adopt myself. Marshalls prides itself in successfully buying overstocked merchandise and selling it at affordable prices. There is a huge selection of discounted clothing from top notch brands like PacSun, Calvin Klein, Nautica, and many more.

Old Navy

Known for its casual-wear, Old Navy never fails to deliver comfortable clothing that lasts. This store has a huge selection of jeans fitted for every body type. In addition, Old Navy sells great workout gear for those trips to the gym. Everything in the store is pretty inexpensive already, but they also hold great clearance events. Word to the wise: don’t miss an Old Navy sale.

Online Shopping

Most people forget that the internet has many different stores and styles to offer all in one place. It can offer you anything from Cynthia Rowley to Reem. This brand is making a great comeback with high quality clothing and hot styles. Plus, there are always huge sales going on. The savings tallied on your receipt often wind up outweighing the purchase price itself. It is a great option and you can always skim the clearance section first…

Staying on budget when it comes to clothes can be a challenge in college. There really isn’t much extra money to change things up and update. But these are some great stores and sites that can help you out and changing up what you have in your wardrobe can always be helpful as well. If there is an item you don’t find yourself reaching for anymore, sell it! The extra money can support your next clothing trip.

Brionna Kennedy is native to the Pacific Northwest, growing up in Washington, then moving down to Oregon for college. She enjoys writing on fashion and business, but any subject will do, she loves to learn about new topics. When she isn’t writing, she lives for the outdoors. Oregon has been the perfect setting to indulge her love of kayaking, rock climbing, and hiking.
